Join a hike to save Monterey Pine forests near Pebble Beach
The Sierra Club's Great Coastal Places Campaign has been working with Sierra Club California and the Ventana Chapter to help protect the largest natural stand of threatened Monterey pine trees left in the world. This forest, in Pebble Beach is threatened by a proposal to cut down 17,000 trees for another high-end private golf course - at least the 21st golf course in Monterey County.
On Saturday morning, February, 18, 2005 Sierra Club's Coastal Director, Mark Massara will join outings leaders and Sierra Club members from throughout California to hike in this beautiful forest to raise awareness of the issue and to have a good time. We wanted to make sure that you were in the loop early in case there is any way you could join us. I also wonder if you could post this with your Chapter Outings listings. We believe this will be a well-attended event drawing Sierra Club members from as far away as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Fresno, as well as Monterey and Santa Cruz.
