Legislation that will protect California's most prized natural areas as wilderness and wild and scenic rivers has been introduced by Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Napa. The California Wild Heritage Wilderness Act of 2003 will protect more than 1.1 million acres of federal lands in Northern California and nine of the area's rivers. Congresswoman Hilda Solis, D-El Monte, joined Thompson in introducing wilderness legislation. Her bill will cover Southern California and Thompson's will cover Northern California. Together, the two bills cover about 2.7 million acres of wilderness additions and 24 of California's streams. Senator Barbara Boxer has introduced similar legislation in the Senate encompassing the entire state.
You can help get the wilderness legislation passed into law. Please download our letter of support to Senator Dianne Feinstein, and send it in today. The letter urges Senator Feinstein to support the wilderness legislation. Her support is critical to success of those bills.
