6.         BENICIA (HISTORICAL HIKE IN OLD), 2A, 11:30 AM. Hike along waterfront from Marina to Benicia Regional Park & Point Dillon (narrowest part of Carquinez Strait); then visit old buildings including Benicia State Capital, early Victorians, Fire Museum, depending on time. Bring lunch, water, sun hat, windbreaker. Optional dinner afterward at restaurant in area. Directions: Take Hwy 680 across Benicia-Martinez toll bridge ($1.00). Take 780 to E 5th St exit. 8.         BIG BASIN STATE PARK, 2B, 10:00 AM. Hike to Berry Creek Falls, 10 mi, 1200 ft elev gain. Some slippery rock, so bring good footwear. Bring lunch, water, & clothing for sun, wind, or rain. 9.         BIG BASIN TO THE SEA, 3A, 7:45 AM. Moderate 11 mi hike from Big Basin State Park to Hwy 1 at Waddell Creek will be 90% downhill scenic hike through the redwoods. This is a loop trip. Bus #35 leaves Santa Cruz depot 7:45 AM or Felton Faire 8:10 AM; arrives Big Basin 9 AM. Hike to the sea. Return by bus from Waddell Beach to Santa Cruz too late for potluck. 10.        BLACK DIAMOND MINES REGIONAL PRESERVE, 2B, 10:30 AM. NE of Mt Diablo. Join us to hike the hills & explore underground mining tunnels of California’s little-known coal-mining industry. Directions: Take Hwy 80 or Hwy 680 to Hwy 4; exit at Sommersville Rd near Antioch & go up 3 mi S to dead end at Preserve parking lot. Bring flashlights, lunch, & water. 12.        BUTANO FLOWER HIKE, 1A+, 11:30 AM. In addition to seeing some of the trailwork done & those 6 bridges built by Singleaires, we should see wild ginger, calypso orchids & lots of forget-me-nots. 17.        CRYSTAL SPRINGS RESERVOIR, 3B, 10:00 AM. Shady trails in wooded valley in 23,000 acre state fish & game refuge. We have permission from SF Water Dept to hike the trails from the quarry toward Millbrae. Bring lunch & plenty of water. Directions: From Hwy 280, exit 92 W toward Half Moon Bay. 26A      FALL CREEK TRAIL, 2B, 10:30 AM.  Meet at Safeway parking lot in Felton. Hike on road 1 mi. to trail gate. The trail is steep and

forested, tucked into a rugged canyon. We follow the lively creek through second-growth redwood, bay, and fir trees.  We will visit the

lime  kiln area and an old limestone quarry.  Bring boots, water, and lunch. Approx 8 mi.  

DIRECTIONS: Hwy 17 S to Mt. Hermon Rd, 2nd exit in Scott’s Valley, stay on Mt. Hermon to L into Safeway at corner Graham Hill Rd., one block before Hwy 9.

26B. UPPER FALL CREEK PARK, 2B, 9:00 AM. Meet at Trail Head Parking Lot. The trail is steep and forested, through second-growth redwood, bay, and fir trees. Strenuous, approx. 8 mi., 1750 ft. elev.gain.  Follow Fall Creek South Fork, visit the Lime Kiln area.  Make a steep ascent to the lunch stop at Lost Camp, then climb further to Big Ben Tree. Descend through unspoiled wilderness to the Barrel Mill Site on Fall Creek North Fork, follow  it homewards,  detour past the Lime Kilns to avoid a difficult fording of the North Fork.  Bring boots,
