Introduction
The Black Mountain Group is a regional group of the Sierra Club's Loma Prieta Chapter. We serve members in northern Santa Clara County, California, although we attract members from all over the San Francisco Bay Area. Our activities are primarily dayhikes and occasional backpack, carcamp, or lodge trips. We sponsor evening talks by group members and local environmental activists.
The Bay Area is filled with beautiful hiking venues: mountains, forests, flower covered hills, streams and ocean cliffs. The Black Mountain Group sponsors several hiking trips each month, see our schedule for the next one. These hikes are open to the public; you need not be a Sierra Club member to participate (but why not? joining would help finance the club for lots of good causes!). Come join us for some good exercise, entertaining conversation and some great sights!
Our activity schedule is sustained by volunteer leaders. If you are interested in leading a hike or other activity, please contact our Activities Coordinator Paul Worden.
Environmental activism is encouraged and discussed at sponsored evening talks (see schedule and/or announcements).
BMG ExCom meetings are held regularly with current agenda and minutes available online for review; BMG member participation is greatly appreciated.
Our newsletter includes announcements and an activities schedule. It is distributed at our activities, electronically, or by special arrangement. Electronic versions are posted to this web site and to the members' mail-list. The members' mail-list also includes discussion of hikes, park conditions, and last minute announcements. If you wish to join the mail-list, please visit this linked page to subscribe directly. Alternatively, you may send a request to listserv@lists.sierraclub.org with the message INFO LOMAP-BMG-NEWS and instructions will be sent to you. If you have problems reaching us, please contact our ExCom Chair Cynthia Bollinger.
