Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

  • All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to Sierra Club members, guests, and the general public. DHS activities begin and end at the trailhead.
  • All participants on Sierra Club Outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver. A copy of the waiver may be found at http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/dayhiking/SignInWaiver1101.pdf .
  • The hike schedule is available on the DHS web page at http://www.sierraclub.org/chapters/lomaprieta/dayhiking/ .
  • Hikers new to the group must call the hike leader in advance.

    The hike rating system is as follows:

    1 = Less than 5 miles of total distance
    2 = 5 to 10 miles
    3 = 10 to 15 miles
    4 = 15 to 20 miles
    5 = 20 to 25 miles

    A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
    B = 1000 to 2000 feet
    C = 2000 to 3000 feet
    D = 3000 to 4000 feet
    E = 4000 to 5000 feet

    Thus a typical Saturday 4D outing encompasses 15-20 miles of distance and 3000-4000' of elevation gain.

    Feb. 04 - Pacheco State Park - Sat. - 3-4C.
    Park is on Hwy 152 at Dinosaur Point between Gilroy and Los Banos. No drinking water at the Park so bring your own. Heavy rain cancels. Meet at 7:30 am at Cottle Road and Hwy 85 Park & Ride. No-host carpool at Page Mill P&R at 7:00AM.

    Feb. 11 - Hidden Villa and Black Mountain - Sat. - 4C/D.
    Hidden Villa, Rancho San Antonio, and, weather permitting, Black Mountain. Meet in the Hidden Villa parking lot, after the entrance booth, and by the first bathrooms at 8:30. 26870 Moody Road, Los Altos Hills. Entrance fee.

    Feb. 12 - Mt Tamalpais - Sun. - 3C-D.
    From John Muir Woods, we'll pass Mountain Theatre, tag all three peaks, then head back via Ocean View trail. Meet at Edgewood and Hwy 280 P&R, 7:45am or Muir Woods parking lot, 8:45-ish.

    Feb. 18 - Windy Hill and Skyline Parks - Sat. - 4C/D.
    Meet at the Windy Hill parking lot on Portola Road in Portola Valley at 8:30 for a hike with some good views.

    Feb. 25 - Pacheco Falls - Sat. - 5E.
