Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

  • All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to Sierra Club members, guests, and the general public. DHS activities begin and end at the trailhead.
  • All participants on Sierra Club Outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver. A copy of the waiver may be found at http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/dayhiking/SignInWaiver1101.pdf .
  • The hike schedule is available on the DHS web page at http://www.sierraclub.org/chapters/lomaprieta/dayhiking/ .
  • Hikers new to the group must call the hike leader in advance.

    The hike rating system is as follows:

    1 = Less than 5 miles of total distance
    2 = 5 to 10 miles
    3 = 10 to 15 miles
    4 = 15 to 20 miles
    5 = 20 to 25 miles

    A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
    B = 1000 to 2000 feet
    C = 2000 to 3000 feet
    D = 3000 to 4000 feet
    E = 4000 to 5000 feet

    Thus a typical Saturday 4D outing encompasses 15-20 miles of distance and 3000-4000' of elevation gain.

    May 6 - Audubon Canyon - Sat. - 4D.
    Moderately paced hike. Meet at Edgewood & I-280 P&R at 7:30 AM or at the Pantoll Ranger Station at 8:30 to enjoy flowers, views and nesting white egrets. We will return via the Cataracts.

    May 7 - San Bruno Mt - Sun. - 2B.
    Carpool Edgewood P & R 9:30 AM. Maintained trails with views. Moderate pace - 8-10 miles. Bring Lunch.

    May 13 - San Francisco Earthquake - Sat. - 3C.
    To commemorate the centennial of the 1906 Earthquake we will hike throughout the historic heart of San Francisco. Fast pace with many stairs, and a restaurant lunch stop. Call leader if you haven't hiked with group before. Carpool from Page Mill and 280 P & R at 7:30 AM, or meet at West Portal tunnel entrance (Muni station) at 8:45 AM. No-host carpool at Edgewood and 280 P & R, 7:45 AM.

    May 20 - Pinnacles - Sat. - 3C/4D.
    For a change of pace we will start from the East Entrance and head over to the reservoir and Chalone Peak. Return Via the High Peaks and Balconies. Meet at 7:30 AM at Cottle and 85 park and ride. Must call leaders if you have never hiked with the group.
