Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

  • All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to Sierra Club members, guests, and the general public. DHS activities begin and end at the trailhead.
  • All participants on Sierra Club Outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver. A copy of the waiver may be found at http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/dayhiking/SignInWaiver1101.pdf .
  • The hike schedule is available on the DHS web page at http://www.sierraclub.org/chapters/lomaprieta/dayhiking/ .
  • Hikers new to the group must call the hike leader in advance.

    The hike rating system is as follows:

    1 = Less than 5 miles of total distance
    2 = 5 to 10 miles
    3 = 10 to 15 miles
    4 = 15 to 20 miles
    5 = 20 to 25 miles

    A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
    B = 1000 to 2000 feet
    C = 2000 to 3000 feet
    D = 3000 to 4000 feet
    E = 4000 to 5000 feet

    Thus a typical Saturday 4D outing encompasses 15-20 miles of distance and 3000-4000' of elevation gain.

    APRIL 1: Mission Peak to Sunol, Sun, 4D.
    Enjoy a 17 mile hike along the Ohlone Wilderness trail. Wear boots for muddy trails, and bring $3 for a wilderness permit. Heavy rain cancels. Suggested no host carpool, 7:45am at Cubberley High (Middlefield & Montrose) in Palo Alto, or, meet 8:30am at Stanford Ave trailhead in Fremont.

    APRIL 7: Pt Reyes, Sat, 3B/C.
    Come see scenic Tomales Bay and much more! Optional dinner after hike. Carpool: Edgewood Rd Park & Ride off Hwy 280, 7:30am.

    APRIL 14: Purisima, Sat, 4C.
    Moderately paced hike in a pleasant park with nice views. Meet at 7:30am at Woodside and Hwy 280 Park & Ride or at 8am at the north main parking area on Skyline (about 3 mi north from Kings Mtn/Skyline intersection).

    APRIL 21: Pinnacles, Sat, 4C+.
    We will start from the East Side entrance to the Pinnacles and hike as many trails of this scenic park as possible. Suggested carpool: 7:30am at Hwy 85 and Cottle Rd Park& Ride.

    APRIL 28: Mt Tamalpais Circumambulation, Sat, 4C.
    We'll circle 'round this majestic mountain. Start at Mt Home parking area; catch the Bootjack and Cataract to the lakes; hike up Eldridge Grade for lovely views; then back to start via Hoo-Koo-E-Koo. Bring lunch and liquids. Carpool: Edgewood Rd and Hwy 280 Park & Ride, 7:30am, or, Mt Home parking area 8:45ish.
