Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

  • All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to Sierra Club members, guests, and the general public. DHS activities begin and end at the trailhead.
  • All participants on Sierra Club Outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver. A copy of the waiver may be found at http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/dayhiking/SignInWaiver1101.pdf .
  • The hike schedule is available on the DHS web page at http://www.sierraclub.org/chapters/lomaprieta/dayhiking/ .
  • Hikers new to the group must call the hike leader in advance.

    The hike rating system is as follows:

    1 = Less than 5 miles of total distance
    2 = 5 to 10 miles
    3 = 10 to 15 miles
    4 = 15 to 20 miles
    5 = 20 to 25 miles

    A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
    B = 1000 to 2000 feet
    C = 2000 to 3000 feet
    D = 3000 to 4000 feet
    E = 4000 to 5000 feet

    Thus a typical Saturday 4D outing encompasses 15-20 miles of distance and 3000-4000' of elevation gain.

    July 7 - Point Reyes - Sat. 4D.
    Hike up Mt Wittenberg and over to the ocean, enjoying ocean views and scenic forest. Suggested carpool at Woodside Rd and Hwy 280 Park&Ride, 7:30am.

    July 11 - Rancho San Antonio - Weds. 2B.
    Fast-paced evening hike at RSA. Bring water, snacks and a windbreaker. Meet at the parking lot by the restrooms, 5:45pm.

    July 14 - Big Basin State Park - Sat. 3C.
    We'll take Sequoia Trail to East Ridge Trail and follow the boundary rim; then down Middle Ridge Fire Road back to East Ridge Trail returning to our start point. Carpool: Argonaut Shopping Center 8:00am, or, 8:45am Big Basin Park Headquarters.

    July 21 - Castle Rock Romp - Sat. 4C.
    Start at Saratoga Gap and wander through 4 parks including the scenic loop in Castle Rock. Must call leader if you have not hiked with this group before. Carpool: 8:30am Argonaut Shopping Center, or, 9:00am at Saratoga Gap (Hwy 9 and Skyline).

    July 25 - Wunderlich - Weds. 2B.
    Fast paced evening through Wunderlich Park. Bring water, snacks, and a windbreaker. Meet at the park on Woodside Road at 6pm SHARP.

    July 28 - Sweeney Ridge to the Pacific Ocean - Sat. 3C+.
    Join us for a moderately paced hike with great views. Suggested carpool: Edgewood Rd and Hwy 280 Park&Ride, 8:00am, or meet at Sweeney Ridge parking area, 8:30am. Parking is limited at trailhead, so carpooling is suggested. Must call leader if you have not hiked with the group before.
