2 = 5 to 10 miles
3 = 10 to 15 miles
4 = 15 to 20 miles
5 = 20 to 25 miles
A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
B = 1000 to 2000 feet
C = 2000 to 3000 feet
D = 3000 to 4000 feet
E = 4000 to 5000 feet
Thus a typical Saturday 4D outing encompasses 15-20 miles of distance and 3000-4000' of elevation gain.

Please call leaders if you have not hiked with this group before. Meet at Page Mill Rd. and Hwy 280 Park&Ride 8:00am for a hike with redwoods and ocean views. Bring lunch and enough water for the day.

Aug 9 - Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Sat, 3C (15 mi).
Hike to the Falls via Hihn Hammond fireroad and Howard King trail; then east toward Middle Ridge to Dool trail; then back to Park HQ. Carpool: Argonaut Shopping Center, 12960 Saratoga/Sunnyvale Rd (just south/past Pierce Rd), meet nr Starbucks on SW corner of shopping center 8:00am, or, meet at Big Basin HQ 8:45am.

Aug 16 - Sanborn to Castle Rock, Sat, 4C/D.
We will hike from Sanborn County Park to Castle Rock State Park and do our usual loop in Castle Rock before returning to Sanborn. Meet at Argonaut Shopping Center 8:00am, or, at the upper parking lot of Sanborn 8:30am.

Aug 23 - Fall Creek/Henry Cowell Redwoods Park, Sat, 4D.
Meet at 8:00am at the Park&Ride on Hwy 9 near Hwy 17, or, at 8:30am at the trailhead. Directions to trailhead: Hwy 17 South to Santa Cruz; turn off on the Mt Herman Rd exit; continue on Mt Herman Rd; cross Hwy 9 at Felton and go a SHORT distance on Felton-Empire Rd. The park entrance is on the right - watch for the sign. The hike will be mostly in the shade in a lovely mixed evergreen forest.
