Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

April


All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to the general public and Sierra Club membership is not required. Hikers new to the group are required to call the hike leader in advance.
The hike rating system is as follows:

1 = Less than 5 miles of total distance
2 = 5 to 10 miles
3 = 10 to 15 miles
4 = 15 to 20 miles
5 = 20 to 25 miles
(etc)

A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
B = 1000 to 2000 feet
C = 2000 to 3000 feet
D = 3000 to 4000 feet
E = 4000 to 5000 feet
(etc)

For example, a 4C hike would be up to 20 miles and up to 3000' gain.


April 1 - Mt. Diablo - Sat 4E
Enjoy a 17 mile loop and panoramic views in this East Bay park. Wear boots if trails are muddy. Heavy rain cancels. Co-listed with the Peak Climbing Section. Carpool 7:00 am Cubberley High (Middlefield and Montrose) in Palo Alto or meet 8:00 am at Macedo Ranch at the end of Green Valley Road in Danville.

April 2 - Pescadero County Park - Sun 3B
A moderately-paced but exhilarating tour of this scenic County park, next to Portola State Park. Carpool: Page Mill and 280 Park & Ride at 8:30 am (don't forget that daylight savings time starts today!).

April 8 - Purissima - Sat 4D
Moderate pace. Heavy rains cancel. Meet at 8:00 am at Woodside and 280 Park & Ride or at 8:30 am at the South Purissima Parking lot (1/4 mile from King Mountain on Skyline).

April 15 - Sunol to Del Valle or Mission Peak to Del Valle - Sat 4D or 5F
There should be nice wildflowers. Either hike will be strenuous - please call the Leaders if you haven't hiked with the DHS before. Heavy rain cancels. Optional Mission Peak start ? if interested, you must call Nancy by Tuesday April 11 to work out final details. Carpool: 6:45 am at Mission Blvd Park & Ride (Fremont).

April 22 - Henry Coe - Sat 6D+
Strenuous but scenic hike out to Mississippi Lake (and back.) Pace will be moderate but the route will be long and we may come back after dark. You will be rewarded with spacious views and spring wildflowers along this new route from the south park entrance. This is not a beginner hike. Please call leader for details.

April 29 - Henry Coe Barbecue Hike - Sat 3C-4D
Come join the fun at the annual Coe BBQ hike. Start with a choice of hikes with different demands, but all full of the joy of walking in Coe Park. Be prepared to swim 'down in the hole' before lumbering up to our late afternoon bash at our traditional site. $10.00 includes parking fee (lower lot) & BBQ. May 6 - Spencer Ave to Mt. Tam - Sat 5D/E
This is approximately 28 miles, a roundtrip hike from Spencer Ave to the top of East peak. Hike is fast-paced and strenuous. You must call the leader in advance if you have not hiked with her before. No host carpool 7 am Edgewood & 280 Park & Ride or meet at Spencer Ave P&R 7:45 am.
