Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

April



All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to the general public and Sierra Club membership is not required. Hikers new to the group are required to call the hike leader in advance.
The hike rating system is as follows:

2 = 5 to 10 miles
3 = 10 to 15 miles
4 = 15 to 20 miles
5 = 20 to 25 miles
(etc)

B = 1000 to 2000 feet of total elevation gain
C = 2000 to 3000 feet
D = 3000 to 4000 feet
E = 4000 to 5000 feet
(etc)

For example, a 4C hike would be up to 20 miles and up to 3000' gain.


Sunday, April 1 - San Francisco - 3A
The Great Highway, Lincoln Park, the Presidio, a restaurant lunch in the Haight-Ashbury, and return through Golden Gate Park. Remember that daylight savings time begins today! Carpool at the Page Mill Road and 280 Park & Ride at 8:00 am.

Saturday, April 7 - Wunderlich Park and El Corte Madera - 3C/D
A moderately-paced loop past the Methuseleh tree and limestone formation. Carpool: 8:30 am at the Woodside Road and 280 Park & Ride.

Sunday, April 8 - Mt. Tamalpais - 3C
We'll hike to the summit from downtown Mill Valley, then continue around the northside of the mountain. No-host carpool at the Edgewood and Highway 280 Park & Ride at 7:30 am, or meet at Mill Valley Book Depot at 8:30 am. You must call leader if you have not hiked with this group before. Wednesday, April 11 - Mission Peak Evening Hike - 2B
Meet the leader at Mission Peak (Stanford Ave in Fremont) at 6:30 pm. Bring warm clothes, water, and snack/dinner. Flashlight optional. Rain cancels.

Saturday, April 14 - Sunol to Del Valle(4D) or Mission Peak to Del Valle(5F) - 4D/5F
This has always been a fun hike but either option is strenuous. You MUST call the leaders if you haven't hiked with the DHS before. Heavy rain cancels. Those interested in the Mission Peak start must call Nancy by Tuesday April 10 to work out final details (limit 7). Carpool: 6:45 am at Mission Blvd and 680 Park & Ride (across from McDonald’s)

Saturday, April 21 - Grant Park - 4D

Sunday, April 22 - Montara Mountain - 4C/D
We will hike from the ocean to the top of Montara Mountain (if it is clear), then proceed to San Pedro park for lunch. After lunch and a loop through the park, we will hike back to the beach. Heavy rain cancels. Carpool at 8:15 am at the Edgewood Road and 280 Park & Ride or meet at 8:50 am at the Montara beach parking lot on Highway 1. Please call if you have not hiked with this group in the past.

Saturday, April 28 - Henry Coe Barbecue Hike - 3C-4D
Come join the fun at the annual Coe BBQ hike. Start with a choice of hikes with different demands, but all full of the joy of walking in Coe Park. Be prepared to swim 'down in the hole' before lumbering up to our late afternoon bash at our traditional site. $10.00 includes parking fee (lower lot) & BBQ. Carpool at 7:30 am at Cubberley School at Montrose & Middlefield Roadds in Palo Alto or meet at 9:00 am at Park HQ. Please call leader to sign up.
