Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

January


All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to the general public and Sierra Club membership is not required. If you have not hiked with the group before, please call the hike leader first.
The hike rating system is as follows:

1 = Less than 5 miles of total distance
2 = 5 to 10 miles
3 = 10 to 15 miles
4 = 15 to 20 miles
5 = 20 to 25 miles
(etc)

A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
B = 1000 to 2000 feet
C = 2000 to 3000 feet
D = 3000 to 4000 feet
E = 4000 to 5000 feet
(etc)

For example, a 4C hike would be up to 20 miles and up to 3000' gain.

January 9 El Corte de Madera OSP Sunday 4C. They have finally opened the Virginia Mill Trail, enabling a hike along the entire perimeter of the park. Those who have hiked in the park with me before will have a chance to experience many new trails. No host carpool Edgewood & 280 P&R at 7:30 am or meet at small parking area (marked CM02) 1/4 mile south of Skeggs Point along Hwy 35 on the right at 8:00 am. January 16 Junipero Serra Peak Sunday 3D. Named after Frair Junipero Serra, the founder of the Missions, this peak is the highest in Monterey county. The walk up is mildly strenuous with an altitude gain of 3900+ feet and six miles ONE way on trail, but the view is well worth the effort. Pouring rain cancels. January 22 Mt. Tam Odyssey Saturday 4D. We'll visit the three peaks of Mt. Tam, drop off West Peak and hike out towards Bon Tempe Lake. Strenuous, fast paced hike. Judge your fitness accordingly. February 6 Calistoga Palisades Sun 4D. We'll hike up Oat Hill Mine Road and continue on the new Palisades Trail to Table Rock (see and .
