3 = 10 to 15 miles
4 = 15 to 20 miles
5 = 20 to 25 miles
(etc)
A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
B = 1000 to 2000 feet
C = 2000 to 3000 feet
D = 3000 to 4000 feet
E = 4000 to 5000 feet
(etc)
For example, a 4C hike would be up to 20 miles and up to 3000' gain.

June 8 - Yosemite Half Dome Day Hike - Saturday 4E

Spend a weekend in Yosemite Valley to see the beauty of the Valley and hike Half Dome. People
wishing to sign up must have hiked with the DHS in the preceding 3 months. Call leader for
information on campground and cabin accommodations, food and carpooling. Approximate cost is
$25-$50 per person plus transportation and food.

From Mountain Home we will hike to Phoenix Lake then up Pilot Knob. This will be a strenuous
hike with at least 3,500 feet of elevation gain. Bring plenty of water as there is not much
along the way. Be prepared for changing weather. Suggested carpool at the Edgewood Road and
280 Park & Ride at 7:15 am or meet at the parking lot across from the Mountain Home Inn at
8:30 am. Heavy rain cancels.
