Sierra Club Loma Prieta Day Hiking Section Schedule

All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to the general public and Sierra Club membership is not required. Hikers new to the group are required to call the hike leader in advance.
The hike rating system is as follows:

1 = Less than 5 miles of total distance
2 = 5 to 10 miles
3 = 10 to 15 miles
4 = 15 to 20 miles
5 = 20 to 25 miles
(etc)

A = Less than 1000 feet of total elevation gain
B = 1000 to 2000 feet
C = 2000 to 3000 feet
D = 3000 to 4000 feet
E = 4000 to 5000 feet
(etc)

For example, a 4C hike would be up to 20 miles and up to 3000' gain.


May 2 - Windy Hill - Wed 2B
Fast paced evening hike through Windy Hill. Bring water, snacks, and a windbreaker. Meet at the park at 6:00 pm.

May 5 - Henry Coe HQ to Mississippi Lake - Sat 6F
Strenuous loop hike from HQ through China Hole, the Narrows, and Willow Ridge to Mississippi Lake returning via the Northern Heights Route and Poverty Flat. This walk will lead us deep into the Henry Coe backcountry where we will walk along the edge of the scenic Orestimba Wilderness and enjoy spectacular wildflower displays. Meet at Highway 85 and Cottle Road Park & Ride at 6:30 am or at Henry Coe Park HQ at 7:30 am. Bring a means of water purification or 4 liters of water. Approximately 27 miles and 5200 feet of elevation gain.

May 5 - Pinnacles - Sat 4D
Starting at the West Entrance our route takes us to the High Peaks and Chalone with spectacular views. Optional dinner afterward. No-Host Carpool at 7:00 am at Montrose & Middlefield in Palo Alto or carpool at Highway 85 and Cottle Road Park & Ride at 7:30 am.

May 9 - Mission Peak Full Moon Hike - Wed 2B/C
Meet the leader at Mission Peak (Stanford Avenue in Fremont) at 6:30 pm. Bring warm clothes, water, and snack/dinner. Flashlight optional. Rain cancels.

May 12 - Butano - Sat 4C
Visit the entirety of Butano on this hike. Refreshments on the beach after the hike. Call leader if you have questions. Carpool at Woodside Road and 280 Park & Ride at 7:30 am.

May 13 - Redwood Park and more - Sun 3C
An intricate circumnavigation of the redwood festooned corrugations of the Oakland hills, including Huckleberry Preserve and Joaquin Miller Park. Carpool at Cubberley (Montrose and Middlefield in Palo Alto) at 8:15 am or meet at the former EBRPD headquarters on Skyline at 9:00 am.

May 16 - Hidden Villa Evening Hike - Wed 2B
Meet at Page Mill and 280 Park & Ride at 6:00 pm. We'll hike several fast-paced loops through this park. Bring water, a snack for dinner, and a flashlight.

May 19 - Point Reyes - Sat 4C
A moderately paced hike including the Estero and Limantour trails and Mt. Vision. Plan on dinner at a restaurant in the Pt. Reyes area. Carpool Edgewood and 280 7:15 am or call leaders for trailhead information.

May 19 - San Francisco to Point Reyes - Sat 7E
An early start in San Francisco coupled with a fast pace over 36 miles of spectacular trail and road will bring us to the Bear Valley headquarters of Point Reyes. Limit 6. Call leaders for more info.

May 23 - Rancho San Antonio - Wed 2B
Meet the leader at 6:00 pm SHARP for a fast hike in Rancho. Meet by the bathrooms in the lower parking lot.

May 27 - Mt. Tamalpais - Sun 3C
Explore beautiful forests on the mountain's northside. No-host carpool at 7:30 am at Edgewood and 280 Park & Ride or meet at Deer Park trailhead in Fairfax at 8:40 am. Co-listed with the San Francisco Bay Chapter. Call leader if you haven't hiked with the DHS before.
