The San Francisco Bay Chapter of the Sierra Club Commended the Town of Tiburon recently for encour- aged residents to use alternative energy sources by keeping the permit fees for installing solar electric power systems very low.

It came a surprise to local officials that Tiburon’s $35 solar permit is one of the lowest in the Bay Area and is bested only by Mill Valley’s $3 wonder. Elsewhere in Marin, the fees are: Belvedere $73; San Anselmo, $80; Marin County, $190; San Rafael, $386; Sausalito, $552; Corte Madera, $660; Fairfax, $776; and Larkspur, $813, but after September 1 will be reduced to $207, according to the Sierra Club’s research.

The reaction to this news is probably not what the Sierra Club intended. Tiburon Town Councilmember Tom Gram, a member of the council’s finance sub- committee, told /THE ARK/ that he thinks the town should probably consider raising the fee.
