Hiking, picnicking, swimming in cool mountain lakes, gazing at more stars than you ever thought possible, being inspired by knowledgeable and passionate speakers, maybe trying your hand at watercolors —all these are part of Clair Tappaan Lodge's sixth annual fundraiser, scheduled this year for the weekend of August 13-15. Activities are geared to all age groups, and past participants have responded enthusiastically to a mini-vacation far removed from the summer's heat. Join the fun and enjoy great camaraderie with fellow Lodge enthusiasts. Prices and details will be announced as they develop at ctl.sierraclub.org.
Built by Club members in 1934, the rustic, hostel-style Clair Tappaan Lodge stands atop historic Donner Pass, just 1-1/2 hours beyond Sacramento.
In addition to benefiting the Lodge, funds raised during this event will support the newly formed Clair Tappaan Education fund, which helps youth groups participate in the Lodge's environmental education programs. For the past several years, the labyrinthine corridors of the venerable Lodge have rung with the sounds of children and teens responding to the beauty, ecology, history and need for conservation of the Sierra Nevada and especially the Donner Summit area.
If you can't join us for the August event but want to contribute to the Environmental Education Fund, feel free to write a tax-deductible check to the CTL Environmental Education Fund and send it to Peter Lehmkuhl, General Manager of Clair Tappaan Lodge, PO Box 36, Norden, CA 95724.
Olivia Diaz is a member of the Clair Tappaan Lodge Committee and is CTL's Publicity Team leader.
