Club Endorses Lofgren
Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, a Stanford University graduate, served on the staff of her predecessor in Congress, Don Edwards, and worked on such issues as the creation of the National Wildlife Refuge along south San Francisco Bay. Lofgren was the first Executive Director of San Jose’s Community Housing Developers. She was elected to the Board of Trustees of the San Jose-Evergreen Community College District Board in 1979, and subsequently elected to the Board of Supervisors of Santa Clara County, serving from 1981 until 1995, when she entered Congress.
Among her committee assignments, she sits on the House Science Committee and its subcommittee on Energy and Environment. Last year, due to the hard work and leadership of Congresswoman Lofgren, the House Science Committee accepted Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren’s amendment to clarify and reaffirm U.S. efforts to limit greenhouse gas emissions believed to endanger our environment, in accordance with the multinational Kyoto Protocol.
Her League of Conservation Voters voting score was 85% for the 1997-98 session of Congress. The Sierra Club endorses Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren for re-election and looks forward to working with her on numerous local and national environmental issues.
