Day Hiking
All hikes by the Day Hiking Section are open to the general public—Sierra Club membership is not required. All participants are required

Mar. 2 "4 Summits of Mt. Diablo" Sat. 5F. Join the leaders as we climb Eagle Peak, North Peak, Mt. Diablo and Mt. Olympia. Fast and strenuous (6000 ft of elevation gain). Mar. 17 Tarwater to Peters Creek Grove Sun. 4C. St. Patrick's Day hike from Pescadero Creek County Park to one of the finest stands of old growth redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains, accessible only by foot. No-host

Mar. 23 Trekking Mt Tamalpais Sat. 3/4C (with option of further mileage) 3,000 ft. Start on south side trails, head west to O'Rourke's Bench, onward to East Peak, then down to the lovely north side. As we head back around, choice of further mileage for those so inclined. Suggested carpool 7:30 a.m. at Page Mill & I-280 P&R or meet at Mountain Home trailhead at 9 a.m. Lunch and liquid required. Mar. 30 Henry Coe, Burra Burra Peak Sat. 5F. Same hike as last year but in the opposite direction. Start from Gilroy Hot Springs trailhead on Grizzly Gulch Trail and proceed via Center Flats Trail to Burra Burra Peak. Descend to Canada de la Dormida where we can get water (filter or purify). Just over 20 miles with about 6,000 feet of elevation gain; possible wet stream crossings and/or cross country. Meet at Hwy 85 and Cottle carpool

Apr. 6 Quicksilver Park Sat. 4C/D. We will discover some of the nooks and crannies of Quicksilver Park and learn a little history of the mining operations. Meet at the Mockingbird entrance to Quicksilver Park at 8:30 a.m.

Apr. 14 Garland Ranch Regional Park Sun. 3D. Enjoy hills and spring wildflowers in Carmel Valley. Possible views, spectacular landscape or just fog, depending on the weather. Pace will be moderate, but the

Inner City Outings
ICO works with community agencies to provide outdoor activities to youth whose opportunities to participate is otherwise limited. Volunteers of all levels of commitment needed. Peak Climbing
The Peak Climbing Section (PCS) is a group of mountain climbers who rally around the shared enjoyment of being in the mountains and the thrill of climbing. Climbs are usually in the Sierra and don't require technical rock climbing. The PCS meets on the second Tuesday of each month. We have a newsletter, Scree, that contains reports of past trips, announcements of future trips, and articles of interest. Apr. 28 Pogonip to Wilder Ranch Shuttle 3A. This car shuttle covers three unique parks and one University. Good boots and moisture protection are necessary. Rain cancels. Directions: Hwy 17 to Hwy 9 (Half Moon Bay sign), up Mission Street to Bay. Turn R and proceed to University. Apr. 28 Bicycle 15 flat miles to historic Niles District via Alameda Creek on paved off-road trail. Bring water and lunch, or buy lunch, while exploring quaint downtown Niles. Check out the new park around the old quarries on the way back. Those wanting longer ride can continue to Coyote Hills Regional Park for an up to 30-mile trip. Meet at parking lot of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge at 10 a.m. before caravaning to a nearby creekside park. Restrooms there. Directions: East on Dumbarton Bridge, take first exit, turn R onto Thornton Ave, then R onto road into refuge. Rain cancels. May 10-12 Sunol Regional Wilderness Backpack 2B. Have fun on a 2-night backpack on the other side of Mission Peak with
tons of wildflowers. Start Fri after work about 5:00 p.m. (< 3 miles and 900 ft up) to the Sunol backpack camping area above Little Yosemite. Sat. we hike 6 mi and 1700 ft up to Maggies Half Acre camp. Optional sunset on nearby Rose Peak, only a 1/4 mile away, then Sun downhill back. Group commissary for dinners and breakfasts with 8 others. Bring own lunches and Fri. dinner. Optional pre-meeting will be scheduled. Sierra Singles
Sierra Singles are energetic, single adults, with typical ages from the 20's to 40's who enjoy hiking, biking, volleyball, backpacking, skiing, dancing, movies, rafting, potluck dinners, conversation, and much more. Mar. 10 Newcomer Arastradero Preserve Hike 2 p.m. Come join us for this popular hike where we welcome new and potential members to our group. Current members are also welcome. We will hike approximately four miles at a casual pace with 800 feet elevation gain before adjourning to the Alpine Inn for optional beer and burger type fare. Dress in layers; bring liquid and sun protection. Be prepared for outside seating after the hike. Heavy rain cancels. Directions: From the south on I-280, exit Page Mill west and go about one-third of a mile, turn right on Arastradero Rd. and go a couple of miles to the Inn (left turn) just before the first stop sign at the intersection with Alpine Road. Alpine Road toward Portola Valley to left turn at Arastradero Rd. Make immediate right into Alpine Inn parking lot. Meet at the left side of

Apr. 14 World Tourist Bike Ride. This bike ride offers views that tourists come from the world over to admire. A 23-mile ride with only three minor hills, including the Golden Gate Bridge. Our destination is Tiburon where we will board a ferry ($6) for the return to Fisherman's Wharf. Apr. 18 "East Africa's Mountains, Savannas, Deserts—A Vanishing World" Thurs. 7:30 pm. Dr. Chuck Nelson was an archeology grad student of U.C. Berkeley when he went to

San Carlos/Belmont Regional Group
The San Carlos/Belmont Regional Group meets monthly (except July and August) usually on the 3rd Sunday. We emphasize rather easy hikes close to home and programs relevant to our two cities (with a few exceptions for variety). Pot Luck Meetings: Call the host to make your reservation and for the meeting location. Please bring your own table service and food (main dish, salad, or dessert) to serve about six.
