Chapter Welcomes John Farrington
as New Development Coordinator
The Loma Prieta Chapter is pleased to welcome John Farrington of South San Francisco as our new Development Coordinator. John has an extensive background in fundraising and telemarketing management for various arts organizations. His most recent position was in fundraising for TheatreWorks in Menlo Park.
John's first task in his new job at the Chapter is to develop an in-house telemarketing campaign. Previously, the Loma Prieta Chapter out-sourced their fundraising leads to a telemarketing firm, but John will bring that task into the Chapter office. He plans to spend three evenings per week fundraising, and also hire and manage a second fundraiser. His primary goal is to achieve as much or more than what the outside firm was able to do, but at a reduced cost.
John began his career as a primary school teacher in England. He has lived in the United States for five years—the first two in Minneapolis and the last three in San Francisco. As a single parent of a five-year-old son, Gabriel, John says he applied for the Sierra Club position because "I wanted a job that would make more of a difference in my life, and in my son's life."
