The Loma Prietan

Schedule for 2002 Chapter & Group Elections
As required, this schedule provides basic information for members wishing to become candidates for the Chapter (or respective Group) Executive Committee. To simplify the process, the Chapter and groups have combined their elections in 2002. The joint schedule is outlined below.
The Chapter and each group have appointed an Election Committee (ElectCom) and a Nominating Committee (NomCom). Each ElectCom is charged with conducting the election in its group (or the Chapter). A group may designate the Chapter ElectCom as the group ElectCom. Each NomCom solicits candidates for open seats on its Executive Committee (ExCom).
The 2002 election will be conducted using ballots printed in the November Loma Prietan. The Loma Prietan mailing label serves as authentication for ballots cast; only valid members as of the date the labels are printed (September) may be candidates, sign petitions, or vote. Only valid members may be elected and serve.
The last date on which members may volunteer as candidates for Executive Committee is Friday, September 6; on September 13 each NomCom reports its list of selected candidates to its respective ExCom. On September 13 the NomComs must also advise any rejected volunteer candidates of their rights to become candidates by petition. Blank petition forms may be obtained from NomComs; completed petitions must be returned to the NomCom by Friday, September 27.
The November Loma Prietan will be printed and mailed by the end of October; it will include information on candidates and specific instructions for voting. Ballots are due in the Chapter office by Saturday, November 30. Votes will be counted by the Election Committees and reported to their respective ExComs and to the Chapter before the Chapter ExCom meeting on December 3. Candidates are entitled to be present (or have a representative present) during vote counting; locations and times will be announced before candidate petitions are due (September 27).
Members seeking a policy or other vote by petition must submit their completed petition to the appropriate Nominating Committee by Sept. 13.
