Members Invited to Chapter Focus Group

To learn more about our members' interests and concerns, the Loma Prieta Chapter is starting to hold a series of focus groups, led by ExCom member Debbie Mytels. Members who are very involved with the chapter as well as those who are not very active (including some lapsed members) will be invited to attend one of several two-hour sessions during the next few months.

"The goal is to find out what people want to get from their Sierra Club membership. We also hope to hear some new ideas for programs that will more effectively respond to the challenges of living in balance with our natural environment," Mytels said.

Another goal is to design new approaches for volunteering with the Club, even though peoples' lives are often busier today than in the past. "With 20,000 members, the Loma Prieta Chapter is like a 'sleeping giant,'" Mytels explained.

"We're looking for innovative ways to utilize the tremendous talent in our Chapter and engage more members in the work of protecting our local environment." "The best source of these ideas is our members themselves," she added. "And it will be fun to talk with a wide variety of Chapter members and hear different perspectives about what people think of our organization."

People who would like to participate in one of the focus groups are invited to call Debbie Mytels at (650) 856-7580 or call the Chapter office at (650) 390-8411. Leave your name and phone number and say you want to participate in a focus group.

The groups will be held in the evenings at locations throughout the area. Refreshments will be served.
