Outings
The Chapter's calendar is a good place to look for outings organized by the 3 Regional Groups and 13 Activity Sections in the Chapter.
Many of the Regional Groups and Activity Sections hold regular meetings, publish newletters, and maintain their own web pages. To find out more about them, visit their web pages by clicking on the links below.
All participants on Sierra Club outings are required to sign a standard liability waiver. If you would like to read the Liability Waiver before participating on an outing, please go to: www.sierraclub.org/outings/chapter/forms/.
Regional Groups
Black Mountain Group
Northern Santa Clara County. Day hikes and occasional backpack, car camp, or lodge trips. Evening talks by group members and local environmental activists.
Guadalupe Group
Mid- and southern Santa Clara County, and all of San Benito County. Day hikes, dog hikes and occasional backpack, car camp, or lodge trips. Annual summer winery picnic.
San Carlos/Belmont Group
San Carlos and Belmont. Local walking and hiking, build and maintain trails, preserve the environment that makes this area so special. Encourage others to be a part of these activities.
Activity Sections
20's - 30's
Members between the ages of 20 & 30. Activities vary from casual city strolls to 15 mile hikes in the local wilderness to group dining experiences.
Backpacking
Sponsors each year 20-30 backpacking trips, ranging from easy beginner weekend outings to more rigorous expeditions of up to two weeks.
Day Hiking
Provides well-organized access to the many parks, open spaces, and other legally accessible lands primarily (but not exclusively) in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Family Outings
Organizes kids oriented activities.
Gay & Lesbian Sierrans
Offers the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community a variety of outdoor activities, including day hikes, car camping weekends, and backpack trips.
Inner City Outings
Community outreach program that provides opportunities for urban youth and adults to explore, enjoy and protect the natural world.
Loma Prieta Paddlers
Whitewater paddling group that hosts weekly pool roll sessions, a full schedule of river trips and an annual whitewater slalom race.
Peak Climbing
Focuses on nontechnical ascents of peaks in the Sierra Nevada. Climb rock, snow and ice, crags and high summits, ski and snowshoe, hike the local hills and travel abroad to climb.
Rock Climbing
Does not lead Sierra Club trips due to insurance limitations. Private trips are organized by e-mail.
San Mateo Hiking
Offers moderate hikes three times a week in the San Francisco Bay area.
Sierra Singles
Offers lots of hiking, biking, volleyball, backpacking, skiing, dancing, movies, rafting, dining, conversation, etc., to energetic, single adults (30s, 40s, and 50s)
Singleaires
Friendly, active, single people over 40 and up who enjoy outdoor activities and conservation. Hikes offered each Sunday followed by a potluck.
Ski Touring
Diverse group of skiers of all levels expertise who share the love of cross country skiing. Leads cross-country ski trips to the Sierra Nevada and elsewhere.
