The ABC's of Mountaineering

A  is for Alpine rock, snow, ice and sky,
B  is for Bivy, so cold that you cry.
C  is for Cornice, Couloir, and Crevasse,
D  is for Dulfersitz flossing your ass.
E  is for Etriers clipped to your gear,
F  is for Freezing and Falling and Fear.
G  is for Glacier, from bergschrund to snout,
H  is for Help! -- which you might need to shout.
I  is for Ice Screw that's placed with a twist,
J  is for Jamcrack, from fingers to fist.
K  is for Kleimheist, a prusik will do,
L  is for Lightning, too close and you're through.
M  is for Mountain -- himal or munro,
N  is for Nunatak splitting the flow.
O  is for Offwidth, Offroute, and Onsite,
P  is for Pee Bottle spilled in the night.
Q  is for Quickdraw, the trad climber's scourge,
R  is for Rucksack to carry your courage.
S  is for Scree Ski -- snow is more fun,
T  is for Tentbound and dreaming of sun.
U  is for Undercling on a loose block,
V  is for Verglas that's coating the rock.
W  is for "Whoops!", "Watch out!", and "oh Well...",
X  is for Marking that spot where you fell.
Y  is for YOSAR short hauling from walls,
                  and
Z  is for Zephyr that freezes your balls.
