It is always the responsibility of the leader to determine who goes on
the trip. Listed here are topics which can be used by a leader to
screen callers. These are intended to be general guidelines. The type
of trip will determine which are applicable.
- Sierra Club member
- Over eighteen years old (If under 18, need written permission from parent/guardian and emergency medical release form.)
- Physical condition
- Months/years of mountaineering experience
- Difficulty and frequency of climbs
- Navigational and route finding ability
- Self-sufficiency
- Technical training (depending on climb)
- Rock - belay, rappel, anchor setting, rope handling, use of hardware
- Snow/ice - use of ice axe and crampons, ice axe belay, avalanche training
- Camping ability
- Equipment necessary for trip (depends on trip)
