Six nights on Kilimanjaro - plus four nights at the Marangu Hotel under $800.00. Safari after trek, optional Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Plans are to camp at the top of Tollhouse Friday & Saturday night. Walk in. Or 4 wheel drive required. Call Joan Marshall for details: 650-210-7551 or jmarshal@legato.com. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Slog up the Snow Creek switchbacks out of Yosemite Valley into the snowy high country and ski (or snowshoe) over the relatively gentle marked terrain to snow covered Hwy 120. We'll ascend the south face of Mt. Hoffman and then descend the intermediate slopes to our camp, returning to the Valley on the third day. In the event of bad weather, this trip will be changed to a ski tour to Ostrander Lake. Previous winter snowcamping experience is required. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club

We'll ski from Badger Pass on the groomed road to the Mono Meadow trailhead where we'll drop down into the forest and head east towards the peak. We'll circle north around the peak and climb the Farquhar (NE Face) route. This route includes a few moves of class 4 near the top. If time and conditions allow, we'll also climb the 5.5 SE Face of Mt. Starr King. Depending on conditions, this may be a very strenuous trip. The distance to Mt. Clark is approximately 15-20 miles with 6000'-7000' of gain. Previous winter snowcamping and roped climbing experience is required. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
How high have YOU been in the dead of winter? On our way back from the Grand Canyon, we decided a pre-spring-conditions trip above 14k was a good idea... and the early snowpack looks nice and deep. Participants should be comfortable camping and climbing on snow. There is only one really steep stretch, but we'll be one or two days in before we get there. Snowshoes or skis are welcome. A longer winter approach and a cautious attitude caused us to schedule a 4-day trip, but there is a chance this can be done in 3 days. It depends on how far up the road we can drive and what the snowpack is like. Contact either of us to sign up (and don't be offended if we ask whether you can navigate on your own during a winter storm). Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Pyramid Peak is a PCS winter classic. We will spice it up with a traverse over to Mount Price and maybe a side trip to Ralston Peak on the way out. Trailhead is TwinBridges on Highway 50. Crampons and ice axe experience required to sign up for this trip. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
We will attempt to climb the beautiful Roundtop Peak that is in the vicinity of the Kirkwood ski area. Meet at 8 am at the Carson Pass sno-park on Sunday the 24th of March. This is a day trip and we expect to return by 3pm. Remember to get a sno-park permit for parking there. There is a hefty fine if found to be without one. Sno-park permits are usually available at REI and some other outdoor sports stores. Snowshoes or skis needed for the approach and axe and crampons for the summit ridge. Basic ability to use axe/crampons is a must. Get adequate warm and windproof winter clothing and footwear and food and drink. We should be back to the cars by 3pm. You must call the leaders to sign up. If we have not climbed with you before, you will be asked to explain your ice axe and crampon usage experience. Extreme weather will cancel this trip. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Climb a fourteener, barely, in winter conditions in the springtime when you can get by with only nine hours in the sack. Participatnts need to have experience using an ice axe for self-arrest. Crampons will be necessary and we will travel by snowshoe. Some winter camping experience would help. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Re-live the first PCS winter trip I ever led... only this time we'll actually DO the high traverse of the Tablelands (above Table Meadow) instead of cutting down across the valley. Expect high angle snow near Silliman and great views into the seldom-visited Ferguson and Deadman canyons from the Kings-Kern Divide. Snowshoers will have more fun near the cars, skiers will have more fun up high. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
This will be a strenuous weekend climb of two 13,000' mountains (Mt. Tom is the large mountain seen when driving northwest out of Bishop). We'll have 6k' of gain the first day. Ice axe and crampons will be needed for Sunday. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Another strenuous outing, a rough first day will get us to base camp at Sawmill Lake. Ice axe, crampons and snowshoes will be needed for the climbs. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
We will climb the mountain by one of the east side routes, either Clear Creek or the Wintun ridge depending upon access. Both of these routes are relatively easy and shouldn't be nearly as crowded as the Avalanche Gulch route. Crampon and ice ax experience are necessary. Sat. night in a camp at about 10000 feet, climb the mountain on Sunday and return to our cars either Sunday evening or Monday morning. This is not a beginners trip and Sunday will be a long day. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
This private trip is intended for people who want to practice and improve their snow climbing skills. These peaks are technically easy climbs, so we can spend plenty of time practicing with ice axe and crampons in a setting that is not too intimidating. Previous snow climbing experience is not required, but note that this is not a course. Participants are expected to study ice axe and crampon use in advance. We'll car camp in a campground along Hwy 108, and climb at least one peak each day. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
This trip to the heart of the Sierras will be what you make it to be. My objective is simple, to climb a number of peaks in and around this area with up to 5 other participants, and to have a good time doing so. Once the group is formed, we can decide what peaks we want to do, and if anyone wants to hang out at base camp for a day and fish, that's fine too. We we start at Treasure lakes, and go over Echo col for the direct route into the Goddard area. While the permit begins the July 4th week early, you may leave the trip early if you wish as well. Participants should be strong hikers and competent third class climbers with some experience on snow, but only if the early season conditions require it. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Starting from Mineral King (marmots!) we'll try to pack to Big Arroyo the first day. There'll be a lot of accessible peaks to keep us busy for the week! We'll collect names of interested climbers and decide on participants by the end of April. Class 3-4 , ice axe, crampons and rope experience required, harness and helmet for Black Kaweah. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Join us for a climb up to the Materhorn Peak and Whorl Mountain area just north of Yosemite NP. We will drive up Wednesday night and make the hike in on Thursday. From there, we will attempt Matterhorn and Whorl over the next few days. There still could be a lot of snow and ice at Whorl this time of year, so it might require use of ice axe, crampons, harness and ropes. You must have prior experience in the proper use of any equipment you wish to use. I have an 8-person permit. To sign up, send name, address, contact info including email, and check for $3 (for permit fee) to:

Pioneer basin is one of the most beautiful alpine settings, it will serve as our base for climbing peaks surrounding it. Trailhead: Start either from hilton lakes or go over Mono pass down to the 4th recess. If possible, the trip can include either/both thursday + monday to give us more time for more peaks! Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
This peak is notorious for loose rock on many routes, and the best route ithe northeast ridge, which is class 3 from Little McGhee Lake. We'll hike in from McGhee Ck on Saturday and do the peak on Sunday. Participants need to be accomplished class 3 climbers. Interested participants should send me their climbing resume. Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
10 days of strenuous dayhikes to 10 of the Mountaineers Peaks accessible from the east side. Don't feel like carrying a heavy backpack and spending several days to climb one of these coveted peaks? Perhaps consider going fast and light, and enjoying a hot shower and a burger at Jacks when you're done. Come out for one or all of them, details at:

Exposed class 3/4 rock and snow on California's most difficult 14,000'er not requiring a rope. You should own a helmet, ice axe and crampons, and not be afraid of using them. If interested, please email me asap and include your favourite/mobile phone numbers, mountaineering/Mid Pal experience, where from and in what kind of vehicle you'd be leaving from and your equipment. Sorry if it takes me up to a week to reply, Note: This trip is not sponsored or administered by the Sierra Club
Although the dates are flexible, this will be a mountaineering trip in the North Palisades for about a week in September. Mountaineering and backpacking experience is required. Frequent use of ice axe and helmets, and occasional use of crampons are anticipated. If interested in the trip please e-mail me at oyazlali@stanford.edu for the details. In good weather, this trip offers glorious views of snowed in Lassen wilderness and a chance to ski or snowshoe away from the crowds. We will be leaving Saturday early morning from the end of the plowed road near the entrance Station. We will ski or snowshoe up the road 7 miles (+2000') to the base of the Lassen ridge and we will snow camp. On Sunday we will start up the ridge and switch to crampons to reach the summit (1.2 miles, 2000'). We will then return to camp, pack up and head down the road for an easy trip down. In previous attempts, strong winds prevented the group from reaching the summit. Trip members should have experience with winter conditions, including snow camping and use of ice axe and crampons. If you decide to ski, you will need some backcountry skis with skins and be comfortable breaking tracks. Contact Steve Eckert to sign up.
